How a ride works.

Two handovers and a calm ride in between. Here’s what happens before, during and after every Tagalong ride.

From a few days before to the handover.

Six moments that make up every Tagalong ride.

  1. A few days before

Make the carrier part of home

Leave their carrier or crate out with a blanket inside, so it’s familiar by ride day. Check you have everything for their bag.

  2. The day before

    We go through the ride

We check the addresses, the time and both contacts with you. If anything has changed, now is the time to tell us.

  3. Ride morning

    A quiet start

A short walk for dogs, a calm room for cats. Keep breakfast light if they’re not great in the car.

  4. At your door

    Hello and settle

We say hello, check their bag and notes with you and settle them into their travel space. Cats go in their carrier before we arrive.

  5. On the road

    A direct ride

Straight to the destination in a secured travel space. No detours and no extra stops.

  6. At the other end

    The handover

We hand your pet to the person you named, pass on their bag and notes, and let you know they’ve arrived.

What to pack.

One small labeled bag, ready by the door. Here’s what goes in it.

For dogs

  • Lead and collar or harness
  • A blanket or toy from home
  • Food in a labeled bag, if they need it
  • Poop bags and a small towel
  • Any notes for the other end

For cats

  • Their own carrier, door secured
  • A blanket that smells like home
  • A carrier cover, if they like one
  • Food in a labeled bag, if they need it
  • Any notes for the other end

After the handover.

  • We message you when your pet has been handed over
  • Their bag and notes go with them
  • Anything the other end passes back comes home with them
  • We update their travel notes for next time

Helping them settle after the ride.

Some pets hop out and carry on with their day. Others need a little time. For cats, let them leave their carrier in their own time in a quiet room with water and their litter tray nearby. For dogs, a short sniff around and some water usually helps.

If anything about the ride seemed hard for your pet, tell us. We’ll add it to their travel notes and plan the next ride around it.
